Practically a Coven

Practically a Coven is the interactive learning community of Practically a Witch, created for people who want to move beyond collecting magical information and spend meaningful time developing a practice. Over the years, we have offered free courses, collaborative workshops, and shorter pop-up gatherings through our private Discord community. These have explored a wide range of magical subjects, from structured courses of study to hands-on workshops such as making poppets, enchanting objects, and developing practical skills together. Our courses have always been offered at no financial cost. The only real cost is participation: showing up, engaging thoughtfully, completing the work, and contributing to the shared experience. Keeping these offerings within a committed group allows us to study more deeply, experiment more honestly, and learn from one another in ways that are difficult to create in a large public space.

 

We offer a yearly magical journey called the Thirteen Moon Practicum, but because we have some folks who may not be able to make that sort of time commitment or who may join us at a time when our applications are closed, we do maintain a smaller more casual space on our server called The Parlor. This is more of a witchy hangout space, but without access to the rest of our server. We hope it will serve as a great space for making connections while waiting for the next application period or for keeping in touch with friends.  
 

The Thirteen Moon Practicum

I am very excited to offer the Thirteen Moon Practicum. Rather than following a conventional course in which everyone completes the same lessons or assignments, the practicum will invite each participant to find their own path through our shared subject. We will begin from the same broad magical territory, but participants will choose the questions, practices, traditions, techniques, or areas of curiosity they most want to explore within it. The practicum will provide a common structure through regular gatherings, shared resources, reflection, experimentation, and community support. Some activities may bring everyone together around the central topic, while others will allow participants to pursue their own particular focus. In this way, we will be studying one subject collectively without requiring everyone to experience or approach it in exactly the same way. The goal is not to cover every possible aspect of the topic or arrive at one shared conclusion. It is to remain with a magical subject long enough to move beyond introductory knowledge and discover where sustained attention leads. Participants will be encouraged to follow what feels most meaningful, challenging, or alive in their own practice while also learning from the different paths taken by others. This is less a fixed curriculum than a guided magical expedition. We will enter through the same gate, but each participant will choose which paths to follow, what to investigate more deeply, and how to bring the subject into lived practice. Because the practicum depends on active participation, the Discord community for this cycle will be limited to those taking part. There will be no audience and no bystanders. Every member will be both an explorer of their own focus and a companion to others exploring the larger subject alongside them.

The Thirteen Moon Practicum grew from the collaborative courses and workshops Practically a Coven has offered in the past. Below, you can explore some of those earlier offerings that have shaped our community. Some popular workshops and courses may return in new forms, and occasional pop-up gatherings may still appear when inspiration strikes. Whatever shape our work takes, it will remain practical, participatory, and rooted in helping one another become more capable and intentional magical practitioners.
